Hello! Project Top 50? 100? 150? 250? Part Two

Back with part two of the top 50! I’m bad at counting, so I accidentally included #30 in the last post, which has now been corrected. Both this post and the next one will list 15 songs.

I’m really excited to show you guys today’s selection, so let’s have a look!

Hello! Project Top 50? 100? 150? 250? Part One

Sorry for neglecting the blog for so long!

A friend suggested we rank our personal top 100 Hello! Project songs, and it sounded fun, so I decided to go for it. It was a really great time listening to songs I hadn’t in years. That said, I doubt I’ll do something like this again.

I didn’t quite realize what I’d gotten myself into. It’s only logical if you look at H!P’s 15-year history and my 9-year tenure as a fan, but I’d never tried to do anything more than ranking Morning Musume singles and stuff. I’m now estimating around 700-1000 songs total in H!P, so it really did take me until 250 to fit in all the songs I love (not even the ones I just like!)

I know you’re supposed to start at the bottom and lead up to the #1 song when you do these things, but I think more people are interested in seeing the top right away, so I’ll start with #50 and put it together in around 3 posts. Sound good? Let’s get started!

Maeda Yuuka comments on her graduation from S/mileage & Hello! Project

Following is a translation of her comment on the official Hello! Project site:

Comment from Maeda Yuuka

Thank you for always supporting me.
I, Maeda Yuuka, will be graduating from S/mileage as well as Hello! Project on 12/31.

At the event the other day, when the 4 sub-members became official members, I thought ‘I’m really happy~’ as if it were me (becoming a member). But at the same time, I thought, ‘With this timing, I have to tell everyone about my announcement as well.’

Since starting high school, I worried so much about not being able to handle both school and work. And I started to think, ‘I really have to think about my future’ and I gradually felt more and more to realize that I wanted to go to university.

Continuing at this rate with both school and activities with S/mileage, I wondered if I would be able to get into university, but everything was so half-baked… I was really unhappy with myself for always being saved by others. I thought, ‘It’s no good at this rate. I have to try much, much harder to get into school. But at this rate, nothing will change with me being all talk and no action.” I felt like continuing with these feelings would be inexcusable to the members and to everyone supporting me. I thought about it over and over. Even though I’m stupid, in my own stupid way I thought hard about it. I felt that I had to decide this now.

Now, with the 4 new members joining, I was able to spend every day really happily. I’m truly, truly grateful to the original members, the new members, and of course, everyone who has always watched over me warmly.
Although it feels really lonely, on 12/28 the current 7 members’ new song will be released, and I’m eager to do my best to make it the best one up till now! I want to send off my time with S/mileage full of smiles, with gratitude for everyone and enjoy these 2 months more than ever!
Please keep supporting S/mileage from now on as well.

The website also states that from now on, S/mileage will continue to have member changes like Morning Musume, emphasizing that change also means evolution.

Togasaki-san has posted a request regarding the recent AKB48 blog incidents

Although the truth behind the so-called scandals, as well as a decision about any future actions, has not yet been made clear, AKB48 theater manager Togasaki-san has posted a blog regarding his general feelings toward such incidents. Although some may say that it’s simply good PR, I think you can truly feel how much he cares for all the girls through his words, and I hope that I was able to convey that in the translation below.

(The first part of the long post was just about how well the tour has been going, how hard the girls have been working, Team 4′s first solo performance & being able to meet the fans in their hometowns for the first time)

And, in the middle of these concerts, AKB48 Project members’ past blogs and pictures have been spread around the internet, and there have been questions about the aforementioned from many people.

As management, I think that we also have to carefully make the correct decision, but I have a request.

AKB48 is a group where fans watch over and support their “growth” process.

And, as for growing processes, the rules for fans change, the rules for the theater change, and the rules for events change.

Not all of these are correct changes, and there are many blunders, but I believe that these are necessary experiences in order for “AKB48″ to grow on an even bigger scale.

This is only my opinion as an individual, but outside of criminal acts, I would like the “pasts” of members before they joined the AKB48 group to be ignored.

(Excluding the members whose facts have presently not yet been confirmed)

The reason is that, before realizing that a place called AKB48 where “dreams” are granted existed, the girls were regular members of society and ordinary school girls you would find anywhere.

Just like their fans, there may have been attractions to boys in their classes, upperclassmen they liked, and perhaps they have even been in relationships.

Of course, they would also take purikura.

Those girls who were ordinary students entered AKB48 as the place to grant their “dreams”, and are doing their best as every day they take lessons and sweat, cry tears of frustration, and at times, tears of happiness as well.

And I think that at the concerts lately, that is being communicated to the fans.

I know that there are things said by people who don’t understand that AKB48 is a group whose growth is watched over, such as “Isn’t AKB48 only a group with a ton of people?” or “It’s ridiculous to have elections.”

However, what kind of group is AKB48? I know also that those fans who know truly love AKB48 from the bottom of their hearts.

I would like the fans, instead of the members’ pasts, to watch over the the members’ present hard work, sweating and moving toward their dreams, and their futures as well, together with me.

Please continue to support the AKB48 group hereafter as well.

Shuwa Shuwa Ponpon! is open for business!

Sayashi Riho and her beloved soda

Hello friends! Welcome to the haphazard opening of Shuwa Shuwa Ponpon!

What does “Shuwa Shuwa Ponpon!” mean?

“Shuwa Shuwa Ponpon!” is a reference to three of Morning Musume’s 9th generation members: Sayashi RihoIkuta Erina, and Fukumura Mizuki.

Sayashi, a huge soda fan, uses the catchphrase “Shuwa Shuwa Pon!”, which relates to the sound made when someone opens a can of soda. Ikuta’s official nickname is “Eripon”, and Fukumura has sometimes been referred to as “Mizupon”, and the two of them often say, “I’m Eripon! I’m Mizupon! Together, we’re Ponpon!

Putting the two adorable catchphrases together, of course, gives you “Shuwa Shuwa Ponpon!”

Because I’m a perfectionist and a procrastinator (a deadly combination, I might add), it was important that I actually start posting before I ended up dragging my feet for another 6 months. Because of that, things might look a little barebones around here for a bit, but bear with me, someday I’ll get it fixed up.

In the same spirit (of getting myself to actually write), I’ll probably often go off on random subjects and spout uncensored opinions.

Some examples of what you should expect to see:

  • Idols 101: Hello!Project, AKB48 family, and beyond
  • Concert and event reports
  • Weekly TV show summaries
  • Translations including song lyrics, interviews, and misc. features
  • Artist of the Month features, as well as individual member features
  • Sociological essays on varied aspects of the idol world
  • Standard articles such as album reviews
  • Unabashed worship of the cutest, funniest, and most interesting idols out there

What you should not expect to see:

  • Excessive negativity
  • Bashing girls or groups
  • “Momosu is ichiban kawaii desu”

I’m especially interested in providing content that is different from the standard fare, and a positive environment for fans of every idol. In short, I hope everyone will find something to interest them in the coming days!

Any thoughts on what you’d like to see on the blog (or anything at all)? Drop me a line in the comments!

Sato Natsuki’s thoughts after the election

N Nacchi’s blog was really heartrending after last year’s election, and I really fell in love with her after reading it. This year’s blog is really something too, so I’ve translated it here. Read more

Because I know you all care

What’s more boring than reading someone’s ranking? Out of laziness I used TnB’s single ranker.
Since no one wants to read all of that I’ll just point out some highlights: More recent singles (Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game #1, Only you #2, & Maji Desu ka Ska! #5) and heavily Reina-featured singles also seemed to rank pretty high (Only You #2, Nanchatte Renai #3, Shabondama #4, Naichau Kamo #8, & Ambitious! Yashinteki de Ii jan & Resonant Blue #13).
Those who know me well know I never could stand Ai Araba IT’S ALL RIGHT and I’m not surprised either that I’ve grown to dislike LOVE Machine. What I am surprised about is that Seishun Collection didn’t rank right above Ai Araba.
